Two Religious Orders Select Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary today announced that two religious orders – the Congregation of the Mission (The Vincentians) and the Oblates of Saint Joseph – have selected Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary for theological studies for its men studying for the priesthood. The new seminarians will begin their studies in September 2015.
“Saint Charles Seminary is honored to be selected by these dedicated religious orders,” said Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior, rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. “The seminary community joyfully welcomes these new seminarians and looks forward to how they will enrich the lives of all of us and help us to continue the seminary’s growth and transformation.”
The Vincentians with their Eastern Province based in Philadelphia gave several reasons for selecting Saint Charles Seminary including its proximity to other Vincentians, the seminary’s culture of servant-leadership, the dedicated faculty and well-taught courses. Students will live at a residence near the Seminary and Germantown and receive their academic training at Saint Charles Seminary.
“The Vincentians are pleased to select Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary,” said Reverend Michael J. Carroll, C.M., Provincial Superior. “Saint Charles has a distinguished history of academic rigor and service, and we are delighted to partner with them in the priestly formation of our seminarians.”
The Oblates of Saint Joseph, based in Santa Cruz, CA, also cites Saint Charles Seminary’s outstanding program of formation and the welcoming presence of the administration and staff in helping them make their decision. Similarly, the Oblate students will reside at a nearby residence and receive their academic training at Saint Charles Seminary.
“It is truly an honor to inform you that the Congregation of the Oblates of Saint Joseph (USA Province) has selected Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary to be our institution of choice for the academic needs of our current and future seminarians,” said Reverend Paul A. McDonnell, OSJ, Provincial Superior, in notifying Bishop Senior of the Oblates’ decision.
