Two Parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to Present First Class Relic of Saint Jude Thaddeus the Apostle on its First Tour in the United States

The relic will be presented for veneration at Saint Simon and Jude Parish (West Chester) January 31st and Saint Jude Parish and Shrine (Chalfont) on February 2nd

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is pleased to announce that Saint Simon and Jude Parish (West Chester) and Saint Jude Parish and Shrine (Chalfont) will present a first-class relic of Saint Jude Thaddeus, which is being made available for veneration in the United States for the first time.

Faithful throughout the Archdiocese are invited to pray and venerate the relic at Saint Simon and Jude Parish on January 31 and Saint Jude Parish and Shrine on February 2.

Saint Jude, known as the Apostle of the Impossible, is the patron saint of hopeless causes and desperate situations. The relic  is a fragment of Saint Jude’s arm bone encased in a carved wooden vessel in the form of an arm bestowing a blessing.

Saint Simon and Jude Parish will present the relic of Saint Jude Thaddeus on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 with opportunities for veneration and prayer. Public veneration will be suspended temporarily for a special Mass honoring Saint Jude at 7:00 p.m.

Reverend Carlos Martins, CC, a Custos Reliquiarum (ecclesiastically-appointed curate of relics) and Director of Treasures of the Church, will serve as the homilist.

Saint Jude Church and Shrine (Chalfont) will present the relic of Saint Jude Thaddeus on Friday, February, 2024 with opportunities for veneration and prayer. Public veneration will be suspended temporarily for a special Mass at 7:00 p.m. Father Carlos Martins will serve as the homilist.
