The Archdiocese Of Philadelphia Invites All Suffering From Addiction To Draw Strength From One Another At A Mass For Healing And Recovery

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia invites all those who are impacted by addiction, including the families of persons still active in their addiction and those already in recovery, to draw strength from one another in the power of faith at a Mass for healing and recovery. Reverend G. Dennis Gill, Rector of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, will be the celebrant and homilist.

Saturday, March 11, 2017
12:05 p.m.
Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul 18th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway
Philadelphia, PA 19103

As a concrete expression of the Church’s active concern in this regard, Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS) is committed to restoring and strengthening families and promoting the integral health and well-being of those struggling to break the bonds of addiction. Ms. Amy Stoner, Director of Community-based and Homeless Services for CSS said, “We encounter people still active in their addictions every day in many of our programs. Our goal is to encourage them to enter and remain in treatment on their pathway to recovery.”

CSS refers individuals to rehab treatment programs in the region, and offers recovery support through programs like Mercy Hospice. As Ms. Stoner observed, “Amidst the harsh realities of substance abuse and addiction, Mercy Hospice is truly a beacon of hope, where lives are saved and amazing transformations occur. Residents that successfully struggle to overcome their addictions are living proof that recovery is possible.” Acknowledging what anyone close to addiction knows all too well – that addiction adversely affects the persons family, Stoner stresses the importance of building a solid support network to promote long-term, lasting recovery.

Mercy Hospice provides housing and social services to formerly homeless women in recovery from substance abuse, in particular mothers with young children. Women are offered supportive services, life skills and parenting education, case management, enrichment programs, and child care in a safe and loving environment.
