“I was filled with great joy yesterday to learn that Pope Leo XIV appointed Most Reverend Ronald A. Hicks as the successor to Cardinal Timothy Dolan as the next Archbishop of New York.
The Church throughout the world owes a debt of gratitude to Cardinal Dolan for his tireless dedication along with his pastoral leadership and his clear voice on Church teaching. Like his predecessors in New York, Cardinal Dolan’s episcopacy leaves a towering example of Missionary Discipleship from which all can benefit.
The Holy Father has given the Church of New York and her people a true early Christmas gift in Archbishop-designate Hicks. His great skill in evangelization, administration, missionary outreach, and pastoral care for all people, especially the marginalized who seek a strong advocate, will benefit them in deeply positive ways.
The entire Catholic Church of Philadelphia joins me in prayer that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide Archbishop-designate Hicks as he prepares to embrace this new role in service to the Church and that Cardinal Dolan’s retirement will be a peaceful and healthy one.”
