Seminarians Move in to Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary’s New Campus to Kick Off 2024-2025 Academic Year

Seminarians will experience their First Day at the New Campus in Lower Gwynedd.

On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the seminarians of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary will return to campus to mark the start of the institution’s 193rd year of priestly formation and the first year at the new at the new campus in Lower Gwynedd (Montgomery County). The new address is 1400 Evans Road, Ambler, PA 19002.

Media are invited to campus on Wednesday, August 21. Students will be moving onto campus 8:30 a.m-10:30 a.m. at the College building. Solemn Evening Vespers will take place at 5:00 p.m.

The Seminary’s Rector, Most Reverend Keith J. Chylinski, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, will be available for interviews.

In total, 140 seminarians are expected to attend at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary for this 2024-2025 year, including 23 new seminarians. Among the seminarians beginning their journey at the seminary this fall, 7 are new seminarians studying for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In total, there are now 71 seminarians preparing to serve the Church of Philadelphia. In addition, 14 partner dioceses and religious communities from across the country and around the world send their men to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary for formation.

Background on Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary

Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary was founded as the Roman Catholic seminary for the Diocese of Philadelphia in 1832, making it the oldest Catholic institution of higher learning in the state of Pennsylvania. As of August 2024, the Seminary has an overall enrollment of 140 seminarians, 71 of which study for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. There are 23 new seminarians enrolled this fall, marking the first incoming class at the new campus. Thanks to the prayers and generosity of many people, the seminary has been able to continue its mission of forming future priests continuously for the last 193 years, both for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and many other dioceses and religious orders throughout the country and around the world.
