Mr. Daniel J. Dougherty, Jr., Appointed Chief Financial and Operating Officer for the Secretariat for Catholic Human Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia

Mr. Dougherty will succeed Deacon Franz Fruehwald, who is retiring following three decades of service to those in need in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Today, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced the appointment of Mr. Daniel J. Dougherty, Jr., as the Chief Financial and Operating Officer for its Secretariat for Catholic Human Services.

He will succeed Deacon Franz Fruehwald. Deacon Fruehwald has served as Chief Financial Officer for CHS since 2017 and is retiring on December 31st following a career of more than three decades in service to those in need throughout the Philadelphia region. During that time, he served in a variety of frontline and administrative capacities within CHS.

Mr. Dougherty’s appointment formally takes effect on January 1, 2025. He will begin working with CHS staff and Deacon Fruehwald on Monday, October 7th to ensure for a smooth transition.

Background Regarding Mr. Daniel J. Dougherty, Jr.

Mr. Daniel J. Dougherty, Jr., is joining CHS with more than 30 years of finance leadership and operational management experience. 

Most recently, he has served as the Chief Financial Officer at Velocity Venture Partners in Bala Cynwyd. There, Mr. Dougherty built and led all finance, accounting, and capital marketing operations for the private equity firm, specializing in the acquisition, repositioning, and management of industrial and flex assets.

Prior to his time at Velocity Venture Partners, Mr. Dougherty served as Vice President and Corporate Controller for InfraSource (2000-2004), Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for PRG Real Estate Management (2004-2007), Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for The Dewey Companies (2007-2015) and Managing Director of Private Equity and Enterprise Asset Management for Verde Capital Corporation (2016-2022).  He began his career at PriceWaterhouse, LLP in Philadelphia.

Mr. Dougherty holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Villanova University and is a Certified Public Accountant. In addition, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Chief Financial Officer Network.

Mr. Dougherty is a graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield (Delaware County).  Dan, his wife Janeen, and their two children are members of Saint Patrick Parish in Malvern (Chester County), where they have been parishioners for more than thirty years.
