Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Elementary School to Celebrate Chinese New Year

Students in Kindergarten to 8th Grade will celebrate the Chinese New Year with two performances.

Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Elementary School in the Chinatown section of Philadelphia, will hold its 40th celebration of the Chinese New Year with special student performances. The programs will honor the students’ culture, traditions, and community through music and dance.

The start of the Chinese New Year varies each calendar year and is based on the Lunar calendar. This new year began on Tuesday, February 17 and is traditionally celebrated for one month. Each year is represented by one of twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. This is the Year of the Horse.

Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic School was founded in 1941 by Cardinal Dennis Dougherty as a mission and outreach to the Chinese community. Holy Redeemer provides students in kindergarten to 8th Grade with a competitive and rigorous education ground in the Catholic faith.
