Hickey, Reverend Gregory J.
Reverend Gregory J. Hickey, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Parish, Stowe, died on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
Father Hickey was born on August 10, 1947, in Darby, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Joseph T. Hickey and the late Helen G. Lockard. Father Hickey attended Saint Bernadette Parochial School, Drexel Hill, and Bishop Kenrick High School, Norristown, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Hickey was ordained on May 19, 1979, at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father Hickey served as Parochial Vicar, SS Simon & Jude Parish, West Chester; Saint Augustine Parish, Bridgeport; and Saint Leo Parish, Philadelphia. He served on the faculty at Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia; Bishop Conwell High School, Fairless Hills; and Saint Hubert High School, Philadelphia. He also served as Guidance Counselor at Roman Catholic High School for Boys, Philadelphia; Principal as well as President at Kennedy-Kenrick High School, Norristown. He served as Chaplain, Immaculata University, and Rector, Saint Joseph’s-in-the-Hill Retreat House
Malvern. He served as Pastor, Saint John Fisher Parish, Boothwyn, from 2011-2013. In July 2013 he was appointed Pastor, Saint Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Parish, Stowe, and named Pastor Emeritus in July 2020.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Helena Church, Blue Bell, on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 9:00 AM., with a viewing until 10:45 AM. Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Edward Casey, Reverend Richard Connors, Reverend Alexander Masluk, Reverend Herbert Sperger, and Reverend Francis X. Delvin O.S.A. Monsignor George A. Majoros will be the homilist.
Father Hickey is survived by his sisters Eileen (Jim) Reed, Joan Scollon, Maureen Ghion, Janice (Jack) Washeleski, and several nieces and nephews and some great nieces and great nephews.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
