Deacon Edward F. Hanley, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. He was 73 years old. Deacon Hanley graduated from Father Judge High School in 1965. He was employed by SEPTA as a crew dispatcher/administrator. He retired from this position in 2011.
Deacon Hanley was ordained on June 11, 2006, by His Eminence Cardinal Justin Rigali, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. He was assigned to Saint Timothy Parish, Philadelphia. While in this assignment, Deacon Hanley coordinated Communion calls to the sick and elderly; he taught in the RCIA program; and he wrote biblical reflections for the weekly parish bulletin.
The Reception of the body and viewing will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020, beginning at 8:00 AM, at Saint Timothy Church, 3001 Levick Street, Philadelphia, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. The principal celebrant will be Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman. The homilist will be Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan.
Deacon Hanley is survived by his wife of 51 years Shirley; a son, Michael; two grandchildren; and two siblings.
