Reverend Thomas J. Furey, Retired, Resident, Villa Saint Joseph, Darby, died on Saturday, December 26, 2020.
Father Furey was born on May 28, 1945, in San Francisco, California. He is the son of the late John Thomas Furey and Dorothy Jamieson. Father Furey attended Most Blessed Sacrament, Parochial School, Philadelphia and West Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Furey was ordained on May 19, 1973, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father Furey served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Cyril Parish, East Lansdowne; Saint Joseph Parish, Downingtown; Saint David Parish, Willow Grove; Saint Vincent DePaul Parish, Richboro; Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Croydon; Saint Katherine of Siena Parish, Philadelphia; Our Lady of Fatima- Parish, Secane; Saint Bede the Venerable Parish, Holland; Saint Mary Parish, Schwenksville; Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Springfield; and Saint Eleanor Parish, Collegeville. In 2002 he was appointed Pastor at Mother of Divine Providence Parish, King of Prussia, where he served until September 2004. He also served as Senior Priest at Saint Matthew Parish, Philadelphia, until he retired in 2018. Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Church, Springfield, on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 9:30 A.M. Most Reverend Edward Deliman will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Furey at Holy Cross Church, Springfield, on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 10:30 A.M. Reverend Francis Groarke will be the homilist.
Father Furey is survived by his brothers, John (Alice), Robert (Jane), his sisters, Maureen Romanelli (Nicholas), Eileen Koch (Stephen), and several nieces, nephews. Interment will be at Saints Pete and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
