Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Receives $25,000 Grant to Help Senior Citizens Apply For SNAP Benefits

Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS) is pleased to announce it has received a $25,000 grant from Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) that is funded by the Walmart Foundation to help eligible senior citizens enroll in the federal government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The awarded funds will support continued outreach and SNAP enrollment assistance to eligible seniors across the five-county metropolitan area comprising the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in obtaining access to nutritious foods. This effort is especially critical during these challenging times.

Ms. Karen Becker, Director of CHCS’ Senior Centers and In-Home Support Program said, “If you are 60 years of age or older, SNAP benefits can be lifesaving and provide a great boost to the monthly food budget. If you have lost your job due to COVID-19 layoffs or if your household income has changed because others in your family are no longer able to work, Catholic Housing and Community Services can help.”

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, SNAP applications may be completed electronically online and CHCS case managers are available to provide assistance. In addition, SNAP renewals for March-June are postponed until six months after the date due.  CHCS case managers are also available to assist with renewal applications.

For more information, please call CHCS’s Helpline at 1-888-679-7669. Case managers are available to provide assistance.
