The Green Light Pantry is one of two food pantries in the city solely providing nutritious foods to clients as well as free nutrition workshops, health screenings and other services. Developed by the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, it focuses on promoting healthy eating while helping low-income families put food on the table. It provides families with foods categorized as “green light foods” under a system developed by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, which ranks foods based on their nutritional value and USDA dietary guidelines.
Editor’s Note: Casa del Carmen has served the Latino community of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia since 1954, providing counseling, family support services, daycare and afterschool programs for children.
