Archdiocese of Philadelphia to Celebrate 15th Annual Hispanic Heritage Mass

Commemorating the heritage and diversity of the Hispanic Catholic Community   

As part of its commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will hold the 15th Annual Hispanic Heritage Mass. Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez, will be the principal celebrant and homilist. Preceding the Mass, a spiritual retreat will be held for the community. Bishop Edward M. Deliman, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia who oversees pastoral ministry to Spanish speaking Catholics in the Archdiocese, will concelebrate and conduct the retreat’s opening prayer.

The gathering will begin with a retreat at Saint Peter the Apostle Parish Hall, 1039 North Lawrence Street, at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude at 1:00 p.m. The retreat will be led by Father René Canales from the Diocese of Camden. Lunch will be included.

Representatives from 37 parishes and 3 worship sites in the Archdiocesan Hispanic Apostolate will represent their countries of origin by wearing traditional garments during the opening procession of the Mass. The Hispanic Chorale of Philadelphia, under the direction of Ms. Damaris Thillet, will provide musical selections in Caribbean and other Hispanic rhythms.  The group is composed of musicians and singers from throughout the Archdiocese.   

The Hispanic Heritage Mass commemorates the heritage and rich diversity of the Hispanic Catholic community in the Philadelphia region. Participants are encouraged to dress in the traditional attire of their countries of origin.  All are invited to attend.
