Archdiocese of Philadelphia Launches Commission for Missionary Disciples

In the summer of 2020, Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez tasked the Archdiocesan Office for the New Evangelization with launching a Commission for Missionary Disciples. The goal of the commission is to create a culture of missionary disciples in the Archdiocese.

Members of the commission have carefully and prayerfully developed initiatives that will ultimately allow the power of Christ to transform the local Church.

Phase I of the development process allowed leaders to discuss the vision of the commission. Phase II involved prayer and discernment as the commission members studied successful ministries in other dioceses and reflected on the needs of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Please see the videos below for more information about the Commission for Missionary Disciples.

Phase III will begin this spring with the commission’s inaugural event “Making Missionary Disciples” on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. This workshop, which will welcome internationally renowned discipleship expert Dr. Edward Sri, will provide formation in the fundamental principles of forming disciples, especially in the context of parish life. More information about this event can be found at the website below. Pastors are encouraged to attend along with lay parish employees and consultative groups.
