Background Information on Saint Joseph Place
The Saint Joseph Place development involves the substantial rehabilitation of the historic, former Saint Joseph Elementary School and Annex buildings, as well as the new construction of an addition to connect these two buildings, to provide 50 units of service-enriched affordable senior housing on the Saint Joseph parish grounds. The development, supported by the community at large, is located at 502 Woodlawn Avenue in Collingdale, Delaware County, west of the City of Philadelphia. Catholic Housing and Community Services (CHCS) of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia was the lead sponsor of this project. CHCS serves as a catalyst to promote positive transformation in targeted communities throughout the Archdiocese. CHCS serves seniors throughout the Archdiocesan region, with the goal of enabling them to age safely in place in their homes and communities.
Saint Joseph Place at Collingdale serves seniors 62 and older. Of the 50 one-bedroom units, six are fully accessible. Residents will have access to a rich program of on-site supportive services, including case management, health services, and recreational activities. CHCS and its partners will provide supportive services. The project is consistent with community and neighborhood plans and, beyond its impact on the neighborhood; Saint Joseph Place will have a significant impact on the community of senior housing and service providers supporting Delaware County seniors.
