Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez to Bless and Dedicate Father Augustus Tolton Place, a New Affordable Housing Community for Seniors in Southwest Philadelphia
The 45-unit facility will provide affordable housing for independent seniors through Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, will bless and dedicate Father Augustus Tolton Place, a new affordable housing community for independent seniors in the Eastwick section of Southwest Philadelphia. Father Augustus Tolton Place is the seventh community of this nature developed by Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS), a ministry of Catholic Social Services.

Brief remarks from attending dignitaries will precede the Rite of Blessing. Attending dignitaries will include city and state government officials, as well as project development partners and benefactors.
Following the blessing and dedication, Archbishop Pérez will tour the building and join residents of Father Augustus Tolton Place for light refreshments.

Background Information on Father Augustus Tolton Place
In 2021, the Father Augustus Tolton Place development was awarded with a tax credit allocation of approximately $11.5 million by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) and is partnering with RBC Capital Markets and BNY Mellon for financing of the development. PHFA also provided funds through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) Fund and the Construction Cost Relief Program. Father Augustus Tolton Place development also received assistance from the City of Philadelphia, Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh Affordable Housing Program Funds, and a rental subsidy from the Philadelphia Housing Authority under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Faircloth to RAD Program. Construction on the $18.7 million development began in early February 2023.
