The Philadelphia Union To Host A Dozen Young Men From Catholic Social Services Of The Archdiocese Of Philadelphia’s Blessed Oscar Romero House

Thanks to a generous donation from the Philadelphia Union Professional Soccer Team, 12 youth residents from the Blessed Oscar Romero House will attend a professional soccer game later this month.

Omar Alegria, Residential Manager for the Blessed Oscar Romero House said, “Upon learning that our boys were passionate soccer fans, the Philadelphia Union offered free tickets to a game this month.  The Union expressed great excitement about welcoming new fans to their stadium and to our country in general.”

Located in Bensalem (Bucks County), Blessed Oscar Romero House is a 12-bed transitional living home for unaccompanied refugees between the ages of 13-18. It is a program of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS).

Operating under an umbrella of Saint Francis-Saint Vincent Homes for Children, the Blessed Oscar Romero House serves youth who have fled their countries of origin due to war, ethnic or religious persecution, human trafficking, and other hardships.

Current residents originate from Central America, Somalia, Burma, Central Africa, and Afghanistan. Most have grown up playing and watching soccer, which is the national sport in nearly all their homelands. Among the languages spoken by the residents are Spanish, Somali, Rohyingan, Hindi, French, and Persian.
