The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia And The Catholic Charities Appeal Respond To Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic Needs By Participating In #GivingTuesdayNow— A Global Day of Giving and Unity

The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia (CFGP) and the Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) are responding to the unprecedented need caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia by participating in #GivingTuesdayNow. This new global initiative, taking place Tuesday, May 5th, aims to serve as an emergency response to raise funds for nonprofits and outreaches serving those impacted by the crisis.

Across the Archdiocese, the day-long drive will focus on addressing the immediate needs of all CCA beneficiary programs, such as Catholic Social Services (CSS) and Nutritional Development Services (NDS), who are continuing to provide critical support and emergency assistance to individuals, families, and children in need in the face of  COVID-19. The drive also focuses on The CFGP’s Parish Support Initiative, in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, to help meet the needs of parishes who have been directly impacted by the pandemic.

William “Bill” J. Phelan, IV, Esq., President of the CCA Board of Directors said, “With so many people out of work due to COVID-19, the demand for life-sustaining items such as food, essential baby items and rent assistance has greatly increased to unprecedented levels. Any donation can help make a difference.”

Sarah O. Hanley, President and Chief Executive Officer of CFGP said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has created many uncertainties for all of us.  It has impacted our lives, in countless ways – our parish communities have felt this impact tremendously too. With the suspension of public Masses, weekly offertories are suffering greatly, with many parishes experiencing a decrease of more than 50%.  All of us at The Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia understand this source of regular income is critical.  We want to help at this incredibly challenging time, so we collaborated with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to create the Parish Support Initiative. This initiative offer parishes an additional source of much needed income in order to supplement their regular offertory.  Parishioners and donors can support their parish and offer support to other parishes in need.”

Those interested in supporting Parishes and ministries in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on this international day of charity can make a one-time gift or recurring financial contribution through dedicated links by visiting either https://www.catholiccharitiesappeal.org/donate or www.SupportMyParish.org.

Since 2012, #GivingTuesday has become widely-recognized as a day of giving back to causes that matter most. This year, #GivingTuesdayNow is designed to drive generosity, citizen engagement, philanthropy, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world impacted by COVID-19.
