Retired Deacon John J. Suplee, died on Monday, April 11, 2022, as a result of congestive heart failure. He was 73 years old, and he is survived by his sister, Ann Suplee. He was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Elizabeth Suplee, and another sibling, Sister Mary Suplee SNDdeN.
Deacon Suplee was ordained on June 2, 1991, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul by His Eminence, Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua. He was assigned to Sacred Heart Parish, Havertown, where he remained until his retirement on January 31, 2020. In addition, Deacon Suplee assisted several years ago at the Cathedral as a vocalist/soloist, particularly during the Triduum.
Deacon Suplee was a 1966 graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School. He then attended Saint Joseph’s University, where he earned a BA in accounting. Following graduation, he found employment with Wyeth Laboratories in Radnor, Pennsylvania. He eventually left that position and worked as a Director of Religious Education for two parishes: Saints Philip and James Parish, Exton, and, Sacred Herat Parish, Havertown. Later, he became the full-time business manager at Sacred Heart Parish, Havertown, and continued there until retirement.
Reception of the Body, evening prayer, and viewing will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 beginning at 6:30 PM, at Sacred Heart Church, Havertown. A second viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Church, Havertown. The Principal Celebrant will be the Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman. Concelebrants will be Reverend Joseph P. Duncan, Reverend Brian M. Kean, Reverend John J. Nordeman, and Reverend Monsignor Henry J. McKee. The Deacon of the Mass will be Deacon William V. Williams, and the homilist is Reverend Monsignor Joseph P. Duncan. Interment will take place at Washington’s Crossing Nation Cemetery, Newtown, Pennsylvania.
