Stoughton, Deacon Richard L.
1942 – 2015
Deacon Richard L. Stoughton, son of the late Maxwell L. and Helen Smith Stoughton, died suddenly on March 28, 2015. He was a retired Permanent Deacon.
Deacon Stoughton was born on May 9, 1942, in Philadelphia. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany at that time. Deacon Stoughton married Joy L. Luff on April 30, 1966. They had one son, David, husband of Marie. Deacon Stoughton also had two grandsons, Bradley and Maxwell. He received a BS in Economics from Villanova University in 1964. He owned Client & Stoughton, an advertising and marketing communications firm, which he operated for over 35 years.
Deacon Stoughton was ordained on May 29, 1988, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Anthony J. Bevilacqua. Deacon Stoughton was assigned to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Coatesville, which was his only assignment. He retired on December 6, 2013, but continued to assist at Our Lady of the Rosary with the permission of the Pastor, Father Thomas J. Brennan.
The Reception of the body will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Coatesville, at 8:45 AM, followed by a public viewing from 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM. Most Reverend John J. McIntyre will celebrate his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Thomas J. Brennan and Reverend John A. Ferrence, O.S.A. Father Brennan will be the homilist. The Deacon assisting at the Liturgy of the Word will be Deacon Frederick H. Kerr. The Deacon assisting at the Altar will be Deacon M. Eugene Favinger.
Deacon Stoughton is survived by his wife Joy; a son, David; and grandsons Bradley and Maxwell. Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery, Coatesville.
