REVEREND JOSEPH C. STEC
1930 – 2018
Reverend Joseph C. Stec, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Hedwig Parish, Philadelphia, died on Monday, September 17, 2018.
Father Stec was born on April 3, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Clement Stec and the late Mary (Kijak) Stec. Father Stec attended Saint Adalbert Parochial School, Philadelphia and Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. He also attended Villa Nova University.
Father Stec was ordained on May 11, 1957, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John O’Hara, C.S.C. Father Stec served as Parochial Vicar, Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Lansford and Saint John Cantius Parish, Philadelphia. He served on the Faculty, Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia, for 37 years. He was appointed Pastor, Saint Hedwig Parish, Philadelphia, in 1994 and named Pastor Emeritus in 2000.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Francis Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 1412 Lansdowne Avenue, Darby, on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM, followed by a viewing.
Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Stec at 11:00 AM. Among those concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor Paul F. Curran, Reverend Edward P. Kuczynski and Reverend Joseph J. Zingaro who will be the homilist. Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Philadelphia.
