The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has learned that Mr. Todd Napolitano, a 7th and 8th grade teacher at Saint Charles Borromeo Parish School in Bensalem (Bucks County), was arrested at his home early this morning by the Middletown Township Police Department.
Subsequently, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office announced that he is being charged with possession and dissemination of child pornography as well as criminal use of a communications device. The alleged activity did not involve students at Saint Charles Borromeo Parish School.
These developments are both serious and deeply disturbing. Mr. Napolitano has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this criminal matter. The school, parish, and Archdiocese are cooperating with law enforcement. Prior to beginning service at Saint Charles Borromeo Parish School this September, Mr. Napolitano produced criminal background checks and child abuse clearances, neither of which showed any prior misconduct. In addition, current ACT 168 documentation indicated that he had not been involved in improprieties with minors at schools where he taught previously.
There was no prior indication that Mr. Napolitano was potentially involved in activity of this nature and no allegations of inappropriate behavior had been lodged against him during his brief time at Saint Charles Borromeo Parish School.
We urge anyone with information that needs to be shared with law enforcement to contact Detective Kevin Platenecky of the Middletown Township Police Department at 215-750-3861 or [email protected].
All of the above information was previously shared with Saint Charles Borromeo School families.
