REVEREND CHARLES D. SMITH

Reverend Charles D. Smith, Retired, Resident, Saint Albert the Great Parish, Huntingdon Valley, died at Villa Saint Joseph, Darby, on Sunday, August 6, 2017.

Father Smith was born on August 26, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Charles N. Smith and the late Lillian M. Jones. Father Smith attended Saint Helena Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Smith was ordained on May 22, 1965, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Smith served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Joseph Parish, Downington; Holy Saviour Parish, Linwood; Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Strafford; Saint John the Evangelist Parish, Morrisville; Saint Dominic Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Callistus Parish, Philadelphia; and Saint Martin of Tours Parish, Philadelphia. Father Smith also served on the Faculty, Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia. Father Smith served as Senior Priest at Saint Albert the Great Parish, Huntingdon Valley. He retired from active ministry in January 2010.

The Reception of the Body will be held on Thursday, August, 10, 2017 , at 9:00 AM. at Saint Albert the Great Church, Huntingdon Valley, followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Smith at 11:00AM. Among those Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Paul A. Castellani, Reverend Monsignor Gregory J. Fairbanks, and Reverend Peter J. Welsh. Reverend Monsignor Joseph C. McLoone will be the homilist. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.
