REVEREND MICHAEL J. SHEEHAN

1936 – 2019

Reverend Michael J. Sheehan, Pastor Emeritus, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Philadelphia, died on Friday, February 15, 2019.

Father Sheehan was born on October 2, 1936, in Cork City, Ireland. He is the son of the late John P. Sheehan and the late Margaret (Daragon) Sheehan.  Father Sheehan attended Selsden Public School (Croydon, Surrey, England), Incarnation of Our Lord and Saint Martin of Tours Parochial Schools, Philadelphia, Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, and Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales Novitiate before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Sheehan was ordained on May 16, 1964 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol  Father Sheehan served as Parochial Vicar at Christ the King Parish, Philadelphia; Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, Norristown; Nativity B.V.M. Parish, Media; Nativity B.V.M. Parish, Philadelphia; Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Frances Cabrini Parish, Fairless Hills; Saint Monica Parish, Berwyn; and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Philadelphia.  In 1990, Father Sheehan was appointed Pastor, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Philadelphia, and named Pastor Emeritus there in 2010.

At Father Sheehan’s request, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated for him at Christ the King Church, Philadelphia, at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 4, 2019.  Among those concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend John Oulds and Deacon Thomas Moleski (Camden Diocese) will be the homilist.

Father Sheehan is survived by his sister-in-law and many nephews and nieces.  Interment will be private.
