Retired Deacon C. William Shearer died on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, he was 78 years old.

Deacon Shearer was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1945, he was the son of the late Charles William and Mary Elizabeth (nee Bradley) Shearer.

Deacon Shearer served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Keppler as a weapons specialist. In civilian life, he retired from the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO).

Deacon Shearer was ordained on June 4, 2011, by His Eminence, Cardinal Justin Rigali at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. He was assigned to Saints Simon and Jude Parish, West Chester, where he remained until his retirement on July 8, 2020.

Deacon Shearer was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Anna “Patsy” (nee Carbin) Shearer for 46 years. He is survived by his children: William Michael Shearer, and Linda Patricia Pulli. He is also survived by five grandchildren; and five sisters.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, beginning at 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Saints Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester. His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Saints Simon and Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester. The principal celebrant will be the Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald. The homilist will be Reverend Michael Gerlach. Deacon of the Mass will be Deacon James T. Owens. Interment will be at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
