Saint John’s Hospice to Dedicate New Truck for Food Pick up

The new vehicle will bolster efforts to serve homeless men in the City of Philadelphia

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M Cap. will be present at the dedication and blessing of a new truck to be used for food donation pick-up by Saint John’s Hospice (SJH). SJH, a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has cared for homeless men in Center City Philadelphia since 1963. Saint John’s provides emergency shelter, hot meals, clothing, mail services, showers, case management and support to thousands of homeless men each year.

Through its “Casserole Program” SJH is able to provide hundreds of hot meals to homeless men each day. All casseroles are cooked in advance by volunteers from local parishes and organizations throughout the Philadelphia area. The casseroles are picked up by a SJH staff member at parishes and other centralized locations. This new truck will greatly assist efforts to provide hot, nutritious meals for those most in need.
