Men experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia who are in need of a nourishing meal are receiving ongoing critical assistance in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to a partnership between Saint John’s Hospice (SJH), a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS), and Wawa, Inc.
From April 13th – May 29th, SJH will receive nearly 700 pre-packaged meals each week donated from Wawa via the Step Up to the Plate Initiative. The meals will be distributed during SJH’s daily lunch service.
SJH, part of the Housing and Homeless Services Division of CSS, provides crucial, life-sustaining services with dignity, respect and compassion to homeless men in Philadelphia. Recently, SJH’s daily lunch service has increased from serving nearly 220 individuals per day to approximately 320 as the number of individuals turning to SJH for assistance rises.
