Saint John’s Hospice Marks the Successful Completion of Its Second Annual “Boot Up Philly” Initiative With Giveaway Event

Inspired by Saint John Neumann’s compassion for the poor, this initiative is based on the real life example of Saint John Neumann offering those in need the shoes from his feet.

Saint John’s Hospice (SJH) is marking the successful completion of its second annual “Boot Up Philly” initiative with a community giveaway event to benefit Philadelphians in need. SJH is a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS).

The “Boot Up Philly” initiative sought to raise funds to help purchase 1,000 sets of cold-weather essentials such as footwear, socks, and undergarments for those in need and experiencing homelessness to help them during the upcoming winter season. Since launching the campaign, SJH has raised approximately $83,000 to date.

The outdoor event will feature CSS staff distributing footwear, men’s and women’s personal care items, and diapers to those in need. In addition, the Philadelphia Region of The Order of Malta will distribute winter coats and socks and the Knights of Columbus will distribute children’s cold-weather essentials. In combination with CSS and SJH, Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Archdiocesan Office for Ministry with Young Adults will also provide food to be given away.
