Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls to Cut Ribbon on New Connelly Arts and Design Center

Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls in the Torresdale section of Philadelphia will cut the ribbon on its new Connelly Arts and Design Center.

This center breaks new ground in educating the school’s 450 all-female student community in cutting edge digital, and traditional design techniques, allowing them to put into practice what they’re learning and how it can apply to real-world opportunities. This is made possible by Saint Hubert’s lead patrons – the Connelly Foundation and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education.

Ms. Fran Burns, Executive Vice President of the Connelly Foundation; Pennsylvania State Representative Pat Gallagher; Pennsylvania State Senator Jimmy Dillon; Councilman Michael Driscoll; David Magee, Ed.D., Chief Financial Officer for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education; Mr. Jay DeFruscio, Chief Operating Officer for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Secondary Schools; Mr. Braden Bonner, Saint Hubert’s Board Chair; Ms. Barbara Ebling and Ms. Jacki McGrath, Co-Chairs of Saint Hubert’s Capital Campaign; Lizanne Pando, Ed.D., President of Saint Hubert’s; and Gina MacKenzie, Ph.D., (Class of 1993) Principal of Saint Hubert’s, will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

In addition, the school will host a reception to celebrate the opening of the center where guests will tour the new Connelly Arts and Design Center and see students in action.

“This is the first phase of a multi-phase campaign to be completed,” said Saint Hubert’s President, Dr. Lizanne Pando. “The Connelly Arts and Design Center will transform the way students can unleash their creativity, while developing cutting-edge skills in the arts, media, and design. Additionally, this allows opportunity to collaborate with colleges and industry partners offering mentoring, lectures, and real-world skills acquisition.”

Saint Hubert’s former library and media center has become a contemporary learning space – that is built around a STEAM lab, where students can concentrate on Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. This includes a digital art studio, a renovated art room, and a TV studio with a control room.

“This transformation of existing space on our ground floor opens the door to teachers exploring timely innovations in student curriculum,” said Saint Hubert’s Principal, Dr. Gina MacKenzie. “We believe the Connelly Arts and Design Center at Saint Hubert will create the right setting with the right resources for our students to think big. We want them to challenge their ingenuity, and to stretch their imaginations in considering their life options, while offering more opportunities for them to achieve their dreams.”
