Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary Welcomes Sister Nancy Usselman, FSP to Give the John Cardinal Foley Lecture

The 11th annual lecture will focus on “Communicating Christ’s Presence in a Digital World”

Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary will present its 11th  annual John Cardinal Foley Lecture  featuring Sister Nancy Usselman, FSP, Director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies in Los Angeles, CA. Sister Nancy will speak about “Communicating Christ’s Presence in a Digital World.”

Bishop-Elect Keith J. Chylinski, Rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, will be present for the lecture. He will be joined by Reverend Thomas F. Dailey, Chair, The John Cardinal Foley Chair of Homiletics and Social Communications, seminarians, faculty/staff, and community members.

The lecture  is open to the public and is free of charge.  It will also be streamed live beginning at 7:00 p.m., to Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary website and Facebook page.

The John Cardinal Foley Lecture is sponsored by the Cardinal Foley Chair for Homiletics & Social Communications at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Background Regarding Sister Nancy Ussleman, FSP

Sister Nancy is the Director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies and a Media Literacy Education Specialist. She is a theologian, international speaker, film/TV reviewer, writer, and author of a theology of popular culture called, A Sacred Look: Becoming Cultural Mystics. Sister Nancy is also Doctoral Candidate in Ministry at Catholic University of America in the area of Liturgical Catechesis and holds degrees in Communications Arts and a Masters in Theology and the Arts from Fuller Theological Seminary, along with certificates in Catechetics and Media Literacy Education. She has extensive experience in the creative aspects of social media, print media, radio and video production as well as in marketing, advertising, retail management, and administration.

Sister Nancy gives numerous media mindfulness workshops, presentations, parish media missions, and film retreats around the country to youth, young adults, catechists, seminarians, teachers, and media professionals helping to create that dialogue between faith and media. She is an Executive board member of Catholics in Media Associates (CIMA)and The Christophers as well advisory board member of Paulist Productions and Saint Mark’s School in Venice, CA. Sister Nancy is a member of National Association of Media Literacy Educators (NAMLE), SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communicators) and Theology and Communications in Dialogue (THEOCOM).

Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary was founded as the Roman Catholic seminary for the Diocese of Philadelphia in 1832, making it the oldest Catholic institution of higher learning in the state of Pennsylvania. As of August 2023, the Seminary has an overall enrollment of 147 seminarians, 72 of which study for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. There are 36 new seminarians enrolled this fall, making it one of the largest incoming classes in several years.
