Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary to Host 2016-2017 Lecture Series Featuring Nationally Renowned Scholars and Authors

SemThe School of Theological Studies at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary is pleased to announce the first program for the 2016-2017 Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary Lecture Series.  This series encompasses the Archbishop’s Lecture Series, the Theology Lecture Series, the Philosophy Lecture Series, and the Cardinal Foley Lecture Series. It is an opportunity to come to a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith, its authentic content, and its orientation toward the transformation of the world around us. 

All lectures are free, open to the public, and will take place at:

Tuesday, September 13, 2016
Presenters: Dr. Rusty Reno and Dr. Peter Casarella
Topic: Catholic Perspectives on Immigration–An Election Year Primer
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Background on Presenters for the Opening Lecture

Peter Casarella earned his Ph.D. in 1992 from the department of Religious Studies at Yale University. He has served as an assistant professor at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and at DePaul University in Chicago. He is currently an associate professor at University of Notre Dame, where he leads the Latin American North American Church Affairs project. He served as President of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians in the United States and President of the American Cusanus Society. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Academy of Catholic Theologians.

Rusty R. Reno graduated from Haverford College and earned his Ph.D. in Theology from Yale University in the study of religious ethics. He taught theology and ethics at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska for twenty years. Since 2011, he has served at the editor of “First Things,” America’s most influential journal of religion in public life.
