Roman Catholic High School Students Earn Academic Accolades for Their National Latin Exam Results

Roman Catholic High School in Center City Philadelphia recently announced that nineteen students who are enrolled in Honors Latin I have earned an award for their exceptional performance in this year’s National Latin Exam. The class is taught by Mr. John Pensabene.

Two students received perfect scores, seven students earned Summa Cum Laude designation, six students earned Maxima Cum Laude designation, three students earned Magna Cum Laude designation, and one student earned Cum Laude designation.

Mr. Vincent Tarducci, Principal, Roman Catholic High School said, “We commend these young men for their academic achievements in the Honors Latin I course this year and on this year’s National Latin Exam.  Although the pandemic has brought about many obstacles to learning, these students have demonstrated perseverance and a solid commitment to their studies.” He continued, “A special congratulations to Mr. Pensabene for his unwavering dedication to his students.”

The National Latin Exam (NLE) is a test given annually to Latin students across the United States and around the world. The NLE presents an opportunity for students to receive reinforcement and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom. Depending upon their score, students may earn certificates, medals, and potentially qualify for scholarships.

Sister Maureen Lawrence McDermott, I.H.M., Ph.D., Chief Academic Officer and Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Office of Catholic Education said, “On behalf of my colleagues in the Office of Catholic Education, I offer prayerful congratulations to these young men for their hard work and outstanding results in this year’s National Latin Exam.” Sister continued, “I also congratulate Mr. John Pensabene on his students’ remarkable achievements and his commitment to the vital ministry of Catholic education.”
