Owens, Reverend Monsignor Thomas J.

Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Owens, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Alphonsus Parish, Maple Glen, died on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

Monsignor Owens was born on November 16, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Thomas J. Owens Sr. and late Genevieve Derham Monsignor Owens attended Our Lady of Lourdes Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Saint Thomas More High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Monsignor Owens was ordained on May 18, 1974, at The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. He was named Chaplain of His Holiness John Paul II on March 24, 2003. Monsignor Owens served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Stanislaus Parish, Lansdale; Saint Joseph Parish, Warrington; Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, Norristown; and Saint Laurence Parish, Upper Darby. He was on the Faculty at Roman Catholic High School for Boys, Philadelphia. He served as Director of Field Education and as Dean of Formation at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. In 2002 he was appointed Pastor at Saint Alphonsus Parish, Maple Glen, and named Pastor Emeritus in 2013.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Matthew Church,Conshohocken on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at 5:30 PM, followed by a viewing. A Parish Mass will be held at 7:00 PM . Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, D.D. will celebrate the Funeral Mass for Monsignor Owens at Saint Matthew Church, Conshohocken, on Monday, November 9, 2020, at 10:30 AM. A viewing will begin at 9:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor Joseph Garvin, Reverend James Gorman, Reverend Stepehn Katziner, Reverend Monsignor Stephen McHenry, Reverend Monsignor Thomas Mullin, and Reverend Dennis O’Donnell. Reverend Monsignor Thomas Mullin will be the homilist.

Monsignor Owens is survived by his brother Joseph, his sisters, Genevieve, Judy, Cecilia; his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken.
