Reverend Anthony F. Orth, Pastor, Saint Gabriel Parish, Norwood died on Thursday, September 3, 2020. Father Orth was born on August 5, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late August Orth and Dolores Matthews. Father Orth attended Saint Martin of Tours Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. Father Orth was ordained on May 17, 1975, at The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father Orth served as Parochial Vicar; Saint Isidore Parish, Quakertown; Stella Maris Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Ephrem Parish, Bensalem. Father Orth served on the faculty at Archbishop Wood Boys High School, Warminster, Bishop Conwell High School, Fairless Hills, and Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia. Pastor, Nativity B.V.M Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish Essington. Father Orth was appointed Pastor, of Saint Gabriel, Norwood in June 2014. The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Gabriel Church, Norwood, on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at 4:00 P.M., followed by a viewing. A Parish Mass will be held at 7:00 P.M. Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, D.D. will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Orth at Saint Gabriel Church, Norwood, on Friday, September 11, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. A viewing will begin at 9:30 A.M. Among those Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Michael F. Hennelly. Reverend John J. Large will be the homilist. Father Orth is survived by his brother William, brother-in-law Ray, and nephew. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
