Reverend Monsignor Ignatius L. Murray, Pastor Emeritus, Annunciation B.V.M. Parish, Havertown. died on Sunday, December 17, 2023.

Monsignor Murray was born on June 11, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He is the son of the late Ignatius L. Murray and the late Mary Guiniven.  Monsignor Murray attended Holy Cross Parochial School in Mount Airy and LaSalle College High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Monsignor Murray was ordained on May 11, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Church in Germantown by Most Reverend John F. O’Hara, C.S.C..  Monsignor Murray served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Vincent De Paul Parish, Minersville; and Saint Joseph Parish, Cheltenham. He also served on the Faculty at Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia; and Bishop Shanahan High School, Downingtown. He served as Chaplain at Immaculate University. He also served as Parochial Administrator then Pastor at Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, Chester.  In February 1989 he was appointed Pastor, Annunciation B.V.M. Parish, Havertown, and named Pastor Emeritus there in June 2005.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Annunciation B.V.M. Church, Havertown, on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 9:30 AM., followed by a viewing.  Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez will celebrate the his Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM.  Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor Michael McCulken, Reverend Kevin Murray, Reverend Monsignor Thomas Murray and Reverend Michael Saban. Monsignor Murray will be the homilist.

Monsignor Murray is survived by his brother Reverend Monsignor Thomas Murray, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery,  Philadelphia.
