Ms. Lizanne F. Hagedorn Named New Executive Director of Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia

Ms. Lizanne F. Hagedorn will succeed Ms. Lorraine Knight, who is retiring June 30, 2017 after 33 years of service to the Secretariat of Catholic Human Services.

The Secretariat for Catholic Human Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Lizanne F. Hagedorn as Executive Director of Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (NDS) effective July 1, 2017.

Ms. Hagedorn has served the Archdiocese since 1979 and is currently NDS’ Director of Finance and Administration. She will succeed Ms. Lorraine M. Knight, NDS’ second Executive Director, who is retiring after faithfully serving the Archdiocese for more than 33 years.

Mr. James J. Amato, Secretary for Catholic Human Services said, “Ms. Hagedorn’s 30 plus years of experience with NDS, augmented by her focused mission to serve those in need, are significant assets for CHS and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In her usual way, she will hit the ground running ensuring that the social safety provided by NDS will continue to flourish.”

Ms. Hagedorn began her career with NDS as college intern in 1979. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Joseph’s University in Food Marketing as well as a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from Drexel University. For nearly 40 years, she has served NDS in a variety of leadership roles and possesses strong experience in administration, accounting, and regulatory compliance. Currently, she is a Senior Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Program for Research on Religious and Urban Civil Society.

Ms. Hagedorn said, “NDS’ mission to make food accessible to those in need is challenging, but it’s a meaningful and rewarding challenge. It’s an honor to work with dedicated staff and other colleagues who seek to fight hunger by ensuring that healthy food is available to all—especially children. I look forward to continuing the great work started by NDS’ founder, Patrick F.E. Temple-West and advanced by Ms. Knight.  My goal is to be creative, collaborative, and thoughtful with the resources we have to respond to increasing food insecurity in our communities.”

A native of Philadelphia, Ms. Hagedorn is a graduate of the Academy of the Assumption, Ravenhill, in East Falls and a parishioner of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish in Ambler (Montgomery County). She is the mother of three daughters, a long-time CYO coach, and volunteers her time to youth, the Church, and community programs.

Editor’s Note: For over forty years, NDS’ mission has been to serve children and those in need with healthy food and food-related resources. NDS accomplishes its mission in two distinct ways: by administering the federally-funded child nutrition programs and through the privately supported Community Food Program.
