REVEREND ENGLEBERT G. MICHEL

1939 – 2016

Reverend Englebert G. Michel, Pastor Emeritus, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Secane, and Parochial Vicar with Senior Priest status, Saint Christopher Parish, Philadelphia, died on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

Father Michel was born on June 6, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Leonhardt J. Michel and the late Susanna (Honig) Michel. Father Michel attended Saint Katharine Parochial School, Wayne, and Saint Katharine High School, Wayne, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Michel was ordained on May 21, 1966, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Michel served as a Faculty member, Cardinal O’Hara High School, Springfield; Parochial Vicar at Nativity B.V.M. Parish, Media; Saint Gregory Parish, Philadelphia; Incarnation Parish, Philadelphia; and Saint Henry Parish, Philadelphia, where he also served as Pastor. In September 1991, he was appointed Pastor, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Secane, and named Pastor Emeritus there in June 2008. He then was assigned Parochial Vicar with Senior Priest status, Saint Christopher Parish, Philadelphia.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Christopher Church, Philadelphia, on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 4:00 PM, followed by a viewing. A parish Mass will be held at 7:00 PM. Most Reverend Joseph F. Martino will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Michel at Saint Christopher Church, Philadelphia on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:15 AM. Among those concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Francis X. McKee, the Class of 1966, Reverend Monsignor Richard Bolger will be the homilist.

Father Michel is survived by his brothers: Martin and Joseph Michel, sister, Gertrude (Michel) Forte and nephews and nieces. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken.
