Reverend G. Dennis Gill, Rector and Pastor of the Cathedral Basilica of the Saints Peter and Paul and Director for the Office for Divine Worship for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, will be the celebrant and homilist for the Memorial Mass marking the one month anniversary of the death of Sister Maureen Lawrence McDermott, I.H.M.
Members of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary will be present as well as Sister Maureen’s colleagues in the Office of Catholic Education, Faith in the Future Foundation, and many of those engaged in secondary education in the Archdiocese. School leaders and students from Archdiocesan secondary schools will also be in attendance.
The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul organist and cantor will provide the liturgical music for the Mass.

Sister Maureen resigned her position as Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer of Secondary Schools on November 5th due to heath reasons and passed away on November 17th. Sister served in the vital ministry of Catholic education for four decades. Her funeral Mass took place on Saturday, November 27th at the Sacred Heart Chapel at Villa Maria House of Studies.
In a statement posted on Facebook on November 18th Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez asked for prayers for the repose of Sister Maureen’s soul and God’s comfort for those mourning her passing.
The archbishop expressed gratitude “for the gift of Sister’s life and her tireless dedication to Catholic education,” he said.
“Her impact on countless students, families, faculty, staff, and administrators over the course of the past four decades was immensely positive. The mark she leaves behind is indelible and a testament to her love for Catholic education. May she rest in the peace of the Lord.”
