March is National Social Worker Month.
Each March, National Social Worker Month is observed as a way to recognize and celebrate social workers and the invaluable contributions they make in our society.
The Secretariat for Catholic Human Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHS), which is comprised of various agencies that administer a broad range of human services programs as an expression of the charitable works of our local Church, benefits more than 300,000 individuals of all faiths annually through the delivery of social services throughout the five-county Philadelphia area.
CHS social workers daily touch the lives of immigrants, those experiencing homelessness, women in crisis, at-risk youth, senior citizens, the intellectually disabled, those facing hunger, and more. As our communities continue to face challenges stemming from the ongoing pandemic, social workers play an even more critical role in providing essential services to our neighbors in need.
Staff with demonstrated experience in the social work field are available to provide subject matter expertise on various areas of practice as well as discuss the importance of the profession. While not all-inclusive, outlined below is a selection of areas where CHS social workers assist and advocate.
- Older adults and the elderly
- Children, youth, and family
- Homelessness
- Pregnancy and Parenting
- Women in Recovery
