Reverend William F. McGeown, Pastor, Assumption B.V.M. Parish, Feasterville, died at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, on Saturday, May 9, 2015.
Father McGeown was born on August 9, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Francis McGeown and the late Sarah Boyle. Father McGeown attended Saint Rose of Lima Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Saint Thomas More High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father McGeown was ordained on May 16, 1970, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father McGeown served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Paul Parish, Norristown; Saint Benedict Parish, Philadelphia; Our Mother of Sorrows Parish, Philadelphia; and Saint Raymond of Penafort Parish, Philadelphia. Father McGeown served as Pastor at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Philadelphia; Our Lady of Ransom Parish, Philadelphia; and Assumption B.V.M. Parish, Feasterville.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Assumption B.V.M. Church, Feasterville, on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 5:00 PM, followed by a viewing. A parish Mass will be held at 7:00 PM. Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father McGeown at Assumption B.V.M. Church, on Friday, May 15, 2015, at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Edward H. Bell, Reverend William B. Dooner, Reverend Monsignor John C. Marine, Reverend Monsignor Joseph P. McGeown, Reverend Henry J. McKee, Reverend Monsignor Thomas M. Mullin, and Reverend Monsignor Hugh J. Shields. Monsignor McGeown will be the homilist.
Father McGeown is survived by his brother, Reverend Monsignor Joseph P. McGeown, his sisters, Evelyn Bernatowicz and Sister Francis Xavier, I.H.M., and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
