Reverend Daniel J. Dougherty, Retired, Resident at Little Flower Manor, Darby, died on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
Father Dougherty was born on November 15, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late James Dougherty and Elizabeth Daly. Father Dougherty attended Transfiguration of Our Lord Parochial School, Philadelphia and Monsignor Bonner High School, Drexel Hill, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Dougherty was ordained on May 16, 1970, at The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father Dougherty served as Parochial Vicar, Holy Angels Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Norristown,; Nativity B.V.M. Parish, Media; Saint Patrick Parish, Kennett Square, and Saint Dorothy Parish, Drexel Hill. He also served on the Faculty at Bishop Shanahan High School. Father Dougherty retired from active ministry in 2005.
Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Pius X Church, Broomall, on Monday, March 1, 2021, at 9:00 A.M. followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Dougherty at 10:30 A.M. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Georges G. Thiers, C.O., Reverend Monsignor William C. Kaufman, Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Kutys, and Reverend William B. Dooner will be the homilist.
Father Dougherty is survived by his sister Mary (Seamus) Woods, sister-in-law, and nephews and nieces. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield.
