Reverend Monsignor John J. Conahan, Pastor Emeritus, Immaculate Conception Parish, Jenkintown, died on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
Monsignor Conahan was born on October 25, 1933, in Chester, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Joseph H. Conahan and the late Mary A. Kelly. Monsignor Conahan attended
Martin Elementary School, Chester, Saint Robert’s Parochial School, Chester, and Saint James Catholic High School, Chester, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Monsignor Conahan was ordained on May 19, 1962, at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Monsignor Conahan served
as Parochial Vicar, Saint Timothy Parish, Philadelphia. He also served on the faculty at Cardinal O’Hara High School, Springfield, and Principal at Archbishop Ryan Girls High School, Philadelphia. He was named Pastor, at Immaculate Conception Parish, Jenkintown in 1988 and named Pastor Emeritus, there in 2010.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Jenkintown, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 4:30 PM followed by a viewing. A Parish Mass will be
celebrated at 7:00PM. Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez will celebrate the Funeral Mass for Monsignor Conahan at Immaculate Conception Church, Jenkintown, on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend William J. Chiriaco, Reverend Bernard C. Farley, Reverend James F. Endres, Reverend Monsignor Michael C. Picard, Reverend Monsignor Louis A. D’Addezio, and Reverend Leonard N. Peterson will be the homilist.
Monsignor Conahan is survived by his cousins Edward (Debra) and Tom (Judy) Kelly, and their families. Interment will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery in Linwood,
Pennsylvania.
