The Youth Skills Building Program (YSBP), a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS), will hold a special graduation ceremony to celebrate the first cohort of students completing its newly launched trade education program.
Friday, October 4, 2024
6:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
2917 Dickinson Street
Philadelphia, PA 19146
The event will include remarks from Mr. Basil Merenda, Commissioner of the City of Philadelphia’s Inspections, Safety, and Compliance Department for the Department of Licenses and Inspections. YSBP is currently working in partnership with the City’s Department of Licenses and Inspections to teach students about the tests required for licensed contractors to work on construction projects. Following his remarks, certificates will be presented and a light dinner will be served.
Funded by the Philadelphia Department of Human Services to engage youth and help keep them safe, YSBP is a new after-school ministry of CSS’ Youth Services Division. The trade education program launched in May 2024, aiming to reduce risk factors for Philadelphia youth aged 13-18. YSBP provides young people with the opportunity to acquire new skills, including carpentry and home repair. Program participants use their newly learned skills to repair vandalized homes throughout the City.
