Catholic Human Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Announces Rebranding to Catholic Charities of Philadelphia

Today, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced that the Secretariat for Catholic Human Services will be officially rebranded as Catholic Charities of Philadelphia (CC Philadelphia).

Catholic Human Services is comprised of Catholic Social Services, Catholic Housing and Community Services, and Nutritional Development Services. The three agencies as well as their supporting ministries have always been and will remain integral components of the Archdiocese fulfilling the Catholic Church of Philadelphia’s mission to serve as the compassionate hands of Christ to those in need.

Secretary for CC Philadelphia Mrs. Heather Huot said, “For more than 225 years, Catholic Human Services and its predecessor organizations have answered Christ’s call to serve our neighbors in need. It is time for an important evolution, one that will strengthen our ability to grow in service to all those in need throughout the Philadelphia region. We are aligning our many works of mercy and charity under one name and returning to our roots as Catholic Charities of Philadelphia.”

Catholic Human Services’ predecessor organizations date back to 1797 when the Catholic Church in the City of Philadelphia provided a concerted humanitarian response to the Yellow Fever epidemic sweeping the area. In 1912, the Catholic Charities Office was formally created in Philadelphia and later became Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1955-1964.

The new name was chosen as a result of careful prayer, consideration, and market research to simplify organizational identity and to increase public awareness, engagement, and support.

CC Philadelphia is guided by the Catholic faith to empower and uplift Philadelphia area neighbors with compassionate care and essential services. CC Philadelphia nourishes the hungry and provides shelter for those experiencing homelessness; strengthens and supports at-risk children, youth, and families; enriches the lives of senior citizens; and empowers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
