Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS) will distribute nearly 3,000 Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) produce vouchers to income eligible seniors throughout the City of Philadelphia. These vouchers provide senior citizens access to fresh, nourishing locally grown fruits and vegetables through approved farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community supported agriculture programs in Philadelphia and the surrounding area.
Eligible seniors who benefit from CHCS’ Senior Centers as well as seniors from the community-at-large will have the opportunity to receive vouchers totaling $20 in value. CHCS’ In-Home Support Program will also distribute vouchers to eligible seniors in South Philadelphia who are homebound and otherwise would not have the ability to leave their home.
Ms. Karen Becker, Director of In-Home Support and Senior Centers said, “Distributing produce vouchers is another way CHCS, with their partners, address food insecurity and lack of nutrition for seniors. For many it is the first time they visit our senior center and we welcome the opportunity to introduce them to all the programs and services available at their local senior centers.”
The SFMNP is federally funded and operated nationally by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In our region, it is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
Those interested in receiving vouchers can call the CHCS Senior Helpline at 1-888-679-7669 for more information.
