After just eight months of operation, the Catholic Family Fun Club (CFFC) has hosted more than 300 events and activities for its members, whose numbers have nearly doubled since the group began eight months ago. The Meet Up group serves as a resource for families in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia looking for activities that focus on Catholicism and faith while entertaining all members of the family.
The group, comprised of nearly 200 active families and 1,000 individual members, features events and activities ranging from Bible studies and prayer services to monthly crafting sessions and volunteer activities. Some of the most popular events have included a family picnic at the AbbeyFest Music Festival, the Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary Christmas Concert/Open House, and service projects such as making sandwiches for the homeless.
Using a crowd-sourced calendar, the CFFC allows families from throughout the Archdiocese to attend and create Catholic catechetical and social activities together and learn about other local events and organizations connected to the Catholic faith.
The CFFC was founded in July 2016 by Dr. Mary Beth Yount, an Assistant Professor of Theology at Neumann University, who served as Director of Content and Programming for the World Meeting of Families—Philadelphia 2015. She founded CFFC with the intention of continuing to unite the Catholic community in the Philadelphia area long after the Papal visit.
Upcoming events include a pro-life prayer vigil, a pizza dinner and screening of the film Risen, a Lenten fish fry, and a Mother-Daughter Tea.
