Catholic Charities of Philadelphia Ministries to Distribute Thanksgiving Dinners Across Greater Philadelphia Region

Catholic Charities of Philadelphia’s Casa del Carmen Family Service Center, Saint John’s Hospice, and Martha’s Choice Marketplace and Community Farm will provide Thanksgiving dinners to those in need and experiencing food insecurity.

Casa del Carmen Family Service Center will distribute 60 Thanksgiving dinner baskets to community members and families in North Philadelphia.

Families who were selected by Casa del Carmen to receive a basket will be in attendance. Due to limited resources, assistance can only be extended to this pre-selected group.

Each basket will include turkey or turkey breast, canned goods, and stuffing provided by Philabundance and fresh produce provided by Nutritional Development Services, also a ministry of CCoP.

Saint John’s Hospice (SJH) and the Knights of Columbus Philadelphia Chapter will team up to provide early Thanksgiving meals to nearly 200 community members experiencing homelessness.

Members of the Knights of Columbus will visit SJH on Sunday to help the organization feed hot meals cooked fresh by SJH staff. Meals will include turkey, collard greens, sweet potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. The Knights of Columbus typically visit SJH three times each year to help serve meals – on Easter Sunday, around Thanksgiving, and at Christmastime. This traditional service project has been ongoing since 1968, five years after SJH was founded.

Martha’s Choice Marketplace and Community Farm will host a two-day distribution event to provide full Thanksgiving meals to 1,000 families in Montgomery County.

Families who have registered in advance with Martha’s Choice to receive a meal will be in attendance. Due to limited resources, assistance can only be extended to this registered group.

In addition to a turkey, families will receive traditional side dishes including stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, and pumpkin pie.
