Catholic Charities Appeal Announces William J. Phelan, IV, Esq. As President of Its Board of Directors

The Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) is the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s largest single fundraising initiative. It benefits hundreds of thousands of in need and vulnerable individuals throughout the five-county region regardless of their faith tradition through the charitable ministries of the Archdiocese.

CCA is pleased to announce the election of William “Bill” J. Phelan, IV, Esq. as President of the CCA Board of Directors. Mr. Phelan assumed this position effective February 25, 2020. He has served on the Catholic Charities Appeal Board of Directors since 2016 and looks forward to leading with zeal; he is the youngest Board President in CCA history.

He said, “This is such an exciting time in Philadelphia with the installation of Archbishop Pérez as our new shepherd. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to lead the Catholic Charities Appeal Board of Directors as President. The Catholic Charities Appeal is truly the backbone of so many amazing organizations and programs in this Archdiocese, supporting thousands of our neighbors in need. I look forward to working with Appeal supporters and beneficiaries to give hope to those who need it the most and to help bring the CCA to our younger generations.”

Mr. Phelan is the Lead Litigator for the Philadelphia office of Cordell & Cordell, P.C., focusing on family law. He graduated magna cum laude from The Catholic University of America where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilizations and then a Master of Arts in Congressional and Presidential Studies. He earned his Juris Doctor, with a certificate in Law and Public Policy, from The Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law. He has received multiple awards and accolades for his legal skills, presents and is published frequently in his field, and volunteers on multiple alumni and education boards.

Each year, CCA helps to ensure the vitality of countless organizations and ministries throughout the five-county Archdiocese. CCA beneficiaries are grouped into five areas of ministries including Education; Social Services; Evangelization, Parish and Spiritual Life; Clergy; and Local Mission Activities.
