Editor’s Note: The Keys and Sword Gala is a ceremony honoring Catholics who demonstrate outstanding fidelity to the Church and the Gospel. Formerly, a Keys and Sword Award was presented by the Cathedral Parish to acknowledge a member of the religious or civic community recognized for extraordinary commitment to the Gospel and selfless dedication to others. The award given was designed by Robert F. McGovern.
Previous recipients of the Keys and Sword Award include the Cathedral’s longest-tenured rector, Monsignor James J. Howard, Former Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, Dr. Rosalie Mirenda, Past President of Neumann University, Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s religious community, the Missionaries of Charity, and Mr. Robert Sims, a dedicated leader in the archdiocese for many years.
