Due to projected inclement weather during the morning rush hour, Archdiocesan high schools and parochial elementary schools in the City of Philadelphia will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow morning, Monday, February 11, 2019.

Today, Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary announced that it will award a Doctor of Humane Letters degree, honoris causa, to Harvard University Lecturer Dr. Jacqueline C. Rivers at its Concursus ceremony on May 15, 2019.

As with the persons we love, so with God.  We can teach about God with eloquence and grace; we can pour all our strength into helping the poor; we can sing his praises with golden tongues – but unless we give our hearts to him in the habit of silent prayer, listening for his voice and placing ourselves in his presence again and again, whether we feel like it at the moment or not, then our faith is just an empty shell.

February 2 each year marks the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, based on the Gospel of Luke 2:22-40.  Formerly known as the “Feast of the Purification of Mary,” the day commemorates the Holy Family’s visit to the Temple in Jerusalem for Mary’s ritual purification 40 days after childbirth, and the presentation of Jesus as a first born son according to the Torah.
